Partial Differential Equations and Complex Analysis (MAT 201)


COURSE DESCRIPTION
This is a comprehensive course on ‘Partial Differential Equations and Complex Analysis‘ prepared for the Engineering students of KTU to introduce basic ideas of partial differential equations which are widely used in the modelling and analysis of a wide range of physical phenomena and has got application across all branches of engineering, to understand the basic theory of functions of a complex variable, residue integration and conformal transformation and also to prepare them for their university examination. The course content covers the essential fundamentals as per the curriculum assigned by APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU). The student can attempt the optional assignment questions and MCQ test to strengthen their knowledge on the topic. The assessment algorithm of our LMS will help the students evaluate their performance till they get a certification of completion.
COURSE OUTCOME
- Understand the concept and the solution of partial differential equation.
- Analyse and solve one dimensional wave equation and heat equation.
- Understand complex functions, its continuity differentiability with the use of Cauchy-Riemann equations.
- Evaluate complex integrals using Cauchy’s integral theorem and Cauchy’s integral formula, understand the series expansion of analytic function.
- Understand the series expansion of complex function about a singularity and Apply residue theorem to compute several kinds of real integrals.
